Remember that great story a few weeks back about the seniors at the Pudong campus of Shanghai American School whostarted their own business at school? (RentAUni)As it turns out, they now want other students to copy what they’ve done, by thinking entrepreneurially and starting their own businesses.
The Project 3A team (named after the SAS class that inspired their first business idea) has launched the Startup Challenge to help fund other SAS student-conceived businesses with up to ¥1000. Says co-founder Julian Helbling ’20, “We believe students have excellent ideas that can benefit the community, but they lack the means to establish their idea. We want to help them develop their ideas without the obstacles we faced.”
”The passion that co-founder Aaron Xie ’20 has for entrepreneurship is what led the team to develop the Startup Challenge. “Feasibility and impact are the two factorswe’ll look at,” said Xie about what it will take to win. “Of course, the ideas don’t have to be perfect from the start; this is also a support system where we will offer feedback for improvements. So really, we are just looking for dedicated and passionate individuals.”
The Startup Challenge is funded by the profits from the team’s original business, RentAUni, which rents gym uniforms for students who forgot to bring – or maybe wash – their own. “Subtract the Startup Challenge prize, and there is still ample amount of money left with RentAUni to ensure that business will be able to continue serving students for many years to come,” says Xie.
While the Startup Challenge was born on the Pudong side of the Huangpu River, SAS students from the Puxi campus are eligible as well.Applications can be submitted through SurveyMonkey via the “Read More” link below.
It will be satisfying for the Project 3A team to see other student-run businesses come to life. Even more rewarding will be the opportunity to leave behind an even stronger SAS once they graduate.
LEGACY-BUILDING. EVERY DAY AT SAS.
