English Language Proficiency

Georgia Tech is a lively and collaborative atmosphere, and it is imperative that students have the ability to contribute to classroom discussions and engage in the Georgia Tech community outside of the classroom. We ask that non-native English speakers demonstrate English proficiency through the application process. While there is no particular requirement, many applicants choose to submit one of the following supplements to their application:

• Unscripted, third-party Interview (InitialView and Vericant)

All NYU students must have a strong command of the English language to be successful in a fast-paced, rigorous academic environment. How do I know if I need to take a language proficiency test?

You do not need to if:

English Language Tests

All non-US citizens and non-permanent resident students for whom English is not their first language must submit test scores to demonstrate their English proficiency. We will accept the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE. Our TOEFL code is C182.

TOEFL – strong applicants typically score 100 or higher

IELTS – strong applicants typically score 7.0 or higher

PTE – strong applicants typically score 68

We do not waive this score requirement based on grades in English courses or SAT/ACT scores. If you have lived in an English-speaking country or have attended an English-speaking school for more than four years, we may waive this requirement. To request this waiver, email us at unchelp@admissions.unc.edu with a description of your circumstances. Waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis.

The University of Florida requires proficiency in spoken and written English. Scores must be reported directly to the University of Florida.
