On the afternoon of August 30th, the opening ceremony for juniors and seniors took place at the GrandAuditorium.The head teacher of G12, Ms. Gu Ying, gave an inspirational speech, expressing her sincere hope that the seniors recognize their own individuality in order to choose the right college for themselves. She wants the seniors to know that they are never alone on their journey towards college, as their homeroom teachers, counselors, and writing center teachers would aid them during the critical forthcoming application season. Subsequently, Ms. Zhang Yueyue, the head teacher of G11, reminded the students of both the challenges and opportunities they would face in Grade 11. “Go forward or back off,” she said, “It is the juniors themselves who would make the choice.”

Afterwards, student representatives—Charlie Zheng from 12(1), Richard Zhang from 11(1), Jenny Zheng from 12(1), and Annie Chen from 11(9)—shared their visions for the new school year, and gave their advice on time management and pursuing passions. Then, Principal Ma summarized the last year’s honors and achievements, and expressed expectations towards the coming academic year. He also introduced the new evaluation system, new resources, and new academic and social opportunities.

Following that, director of students affairs center Ms. Liu Qin announced the recipient of the prestigious Dartmouth Book Award: Benjamin from 12(6). Mr. Trevor King, the Dartmouth representative alumnus, passionately introduced the charming campus life of Dartmouth College and provided words of inspiration to all students. Accepting his award, Benjamin expressed his sincere gratitude toward both Dartmouth College and SHSID. The opening ceremony ended with the announcement of ethos awards for each grade, as well as individual awards to outstanding students.

2019年8月30日下午，11-12年級師生們齊聚大禮堂，參加了2019學年第一學期的開學典禮。本次開學典禮由學生中心高中主任劉琴老師主持。首先，12年級主任顧穎老師鼓勵學生在申請季里要充分認識自我，合理制定大學清單。圖文并茂地說明了學校將會多維度地支持大家的大學申請。最后祝愿12年級學生們能夠通過申請的歷練變得更加果斷和自信。11年級主任張悅粵老師在演講中談及在11年級這至關重要的一年，學生會收獲許多榮譽，同時也要克服很多難關，要學會知進退，明得失，懂取舍，把握住每一次機會。

隨后，四位學生代表分別上臺發言，分享他們充實的暑假生活和寶貴的學習經驗。最后，國際部高中段馬峰校長用詼諧幽默的開場白——灌“雞血”和“雞湯”，歡迎同學們回到校園。在回顧了此前學生們取得的成績后，也對新學期寄托了深深的期許。馬校長指出，學生們應該思考如何在人工智能崛起的時代背景下創造自我價值、全面提升自己的軟實力，并將這些思考代入到日常的學習生活中；馬校長還介紹了新的教師評價系統以及校方所提供的最新資源和活動機會，鼓勵同學們在新的一年，展現新面貌、努力汲取養分、做更好的自己。

此外，來自達特茅斯大學校友代表Trevor King為12(6)班Benjamin頒發了達特茅斯圖書獎，以此肯定他優秀的學業成就，出色的團隊協作能力就和豐富的課外活動。最后，顧穎老師和張悅粵老師為各個班級頒發了優良、優秀班風獎，劉琴老師為同學頒發了行為規范獎、學業進步獎和體育鍛煉獎。同學們在本次開學典禮中感悟良多，進一步確定了新學期的新目標。在熱烈的掌聲中，開學典禮圓滿結束。

希望所有同學和老師都能在新的一學期有所收獲，有所成長。
