Tsinghua International School(THIS) has beenharmonizing the best of Western and Chinese education and culture for ten years. The schoolfosters creative and critical thinkers who are rooted in China and prepared to lead in the global community.We teach Chinese as a native language. Our curriculum not only improves students'literary capabilities, but also strengthens their cultural understanding, allowing them toexplore Chinese traditional culture.Other than putting Chinese into the core curriculum, we also hold large-scale themed cultural activities and Chinese extracurricular clubs to enhance students' understanding of the Chinese language and culture. It was under such educational philosophy that the Chinese debate club was born and has continued to flourish.

中文辯論社便是在這一教育理念之下應運而生的。自成立以來，中文辯論社積極參加國際學校間的辯論賽，并在一次次比賽中取得了輝煌的成績。伴隨著成績的取得，中文辯論社的影響力與成員數量都在不斷提升。2018年4月，積累了足夠經驗與能量的中文辯論社，從比賽的參與者轉變為比賽的承辦者，成功舉辦了第一屆“縱橫四海，論辯清華”中文辯論錦標賽。我們的隊伍也從來自北京、上海、蘇州三地的11所國際學校共計22支隊伍中脫穎而出，獲得了初中組冠軍和高中組亞軍。

Since its establishment, THIS Chinese Debate club has actively participated in many international school debate tournaments, and has achieved wonderful results in each one. With these various achievements, the influence and members of the club has increased greatly . In April 2018, the club transformed its members from participants into organizers and successfully hosted the first “Zongheng cup” debate tournament. THIS’s own teams stood out from the 22 teams participating in the compilation. The teams came from many different places in China including Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou. Our teams won the championship of the middle school division and second place of the high school division.

成績固然令人欣喜，但中文辯論社并沒有固步自封。2018年夏天，我們第一次走出辯論的“舒適圈”，航向了更廣闊的舞臺。在“亞洲杯”中學華語辯論總決賽中，面對來自全亞洲的60支辯論勁旅，我們一路披荊斬棘，成為了“亞洲杯”上的一匹黑馬，最終獲得了季軍。這樣的成績對一支年輕的國際學校中文辯論隊而言十分難得，使我們有機會也有信心參與到和更多優秀公立學校的角逐中。比如“聯合會杯”北京市中學生校際辯論賽，“上海杯”華語辯論錦標賽還有國際華語辯論邀請賽中學組。在這些比賽中，我們有著不俗的表現，同時也發現了與頂級隊伍的差距，我們還需要不斷磨練、提升自己。

Although the results are gratifying, the Chinese Debate club did not rest content with them. In the summer of 2018, for the first time, the club stepped out of its comfort zone and headed for a broader stage. Participating in the final round of the Asian Cup, facing 60 debating teams from all over Asia, eventually winning third place. Such achievements are very rare for a young Chinese debating team from an international school, giving us the opportunity and confidence to participate in more competitions. For example, the "Federation Cup”: Beijing Middle School Students'Inter-school Debate Competition, the "Shanghai Cup" Chinese Debate Championship and the International Chinese Debate invitational tournament. In these competitions, we performed well, but at the same time the club also found a gap between it and the top team, showing that we still need to constantly hone and improve ourselves.

因此，今年我們將繼續與深耕華語辯論多年的“縱橫杯”組委會合作舉辦第二屆“縱橫四海，論辯清華”中文辯論錦標賽。賽會以專業、前沿、國際化為特色，將聘請海內外資深辯手和辯論教育專家作為賽會評審，努力為參賽選手提供高水平的辯論比賽和極佳的國際化交流平臺。獲得本次辯論賽冠軍的學校，將受邀參加今年7月底舉行的“亞洲杯”中學華語辯論總決賽。

Therefore, this year, we will continue to cooperate with the Organizing Committee of Zongheng Cup, to hold the 2nd THIS Chinese Debate tournament. The competition is characterized by professionalism and internationalism. Senior debaters and experts in debate education both domestic and abroad will be invited to be judges. Providing a high-level debate experience and an excellent international communication platform for competitors. Schools that win the championship will be invited to participate in the final round of the Asian Cup Secondary School Chinese Debate tournament taking place at the end of July, 2019.

清華附中國際部希望能夠引領國際學校中文辯論的風尚，搭建起國際學校間中文辯論的平臺；同時也希望增進國際學校與公立學校間的交流，使兩者之間能夠互相學習、取長補短。因此，本次比賽A組無就學學校限制，并特設邀請制，邀請一些公立學校的優秀辯論隊參賽。相信這些隊伍的加入，會使得這次比賽碰撞出更絢爛的火花。

THIS hopes to lead in the fashion of Chinese debate in international schools and set up a platform for Chinese debaters among international schools. It also hopes to enhance the exchange between international schools and public schools so that they can learn from each other. Therefore, there is no school registration restrictions in Group A, and an invitation system is set up for some excellent debate teams from public schools around the country to participate in the competition.

辯論，既在于思維的碰撞，

也在于對異見的包容，

既在于獨立思考，

也在于多元化的交流。

Tsinghua International School (THIS) was established by Tsinghua University a decade ago. It is an international school that seeks to meet the educational needs of Chinese overseas returnees’ children. It recruits students residing in or intending to reside in Beijing from foreign nationalities, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. THIS is located in the century-old Tsinghua High School, next to the beautiful the Old Summer Palace.
