第一次見到Mr.Zhang,應(yīng)該是在體育館。當(dāng)時(shí),為了在學(xué)校秋季運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)開幕式上一展風(fēng)采,不少中加老師每晚都與學(xué)生一起在體育館排練太極扇。Mr.Zhang全程都非常認(rèn)真、彬彬有禮,給我留下了深刻的印象。但在這次采訪之前,我并不知道他其實(shí)是一位幽默的生物和化學(xué)老師,年少時(shí)也曾有過和許多人相似的經(jīng)歷。
Mr.Zhang 得知這次采訪時(shí)顯得有些驚訝,一臉的不敢相信。但到了約定好的時(shí)間,他便很熱情地邀請(qǐng)我們?nèi)ニ慕淌遥€特地詢問我們哪里比較適合拍照。Mr.Zhang的教室很有學(xué)科特色,除了實(shí)驗(yàn)臺(tái)、元素周期表、人體骨架等常用道具,還有不少玻璃箱子,里面有我們沒見過的魚類和植物,兩只小烏龜,在這樣的教室里上課,應(yīng)該不會(huì)覺得枯燥吧。采訪開始之際,Mr.Zhang笑著囑咐攝影的同學(xué)可別拍丑了,邊說邊做出幾個(gè)搞怪的動(dòng)作,教室里頓時(shí)笑聲回蕩……
長著一張亞裔面孔的Mr.Zhang是自小在加拿大長大的華裔,就讀于加拿大多倫多大學(xué)和英屬哥倫比亞大學(xué),曾在遺傳學(xué)、生物技術(shù)和營養(yǎng)學(xué)三個(gè)專業(yè)學(xué)習(xí),獲得了多倫多大學(xué)的榮譽(yù)學(xué)士學(xué)位(一般修讀四年,且有申請(qǐng)攻讀研究生的資格)和英屬哥倫比亞大學(xué)的教育學(xué)士學(xué)位。Mr.Zhang悄悄告訴我們,在他還是學(xué)生的時(shí)候,也和許多男生一樣,喜歡電子游戲。但他一直牢記著游戲只是愛好,不能讓愛好破壞自己的生活,若過于花費(fèi)過多的時(shí)間在游戲上,就有些本末倒置了。Mr.Zhang一直有一個(gè)目標(biāo),要做最優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生,就如他在游戲里是最強(qiáng)的玩家一樣。而最終,他也確實(shí)做到了。正因如此,Mr.Zhang更明白在學(xué)習(xí)中有一個(gè)明確的目標(biāo)多么重要。若你下定決心要認(rèn)真學(xué)習(xí),要做出改變,那么一切皆有可能。
有了決心,還需要科學(xué)的方法,讓學(xué)生學(xué)會(huì)學(xué)習(xí)是Mr.Zhang成為教師后的目標(biāo)。“我知道在他們的一生之中,將會(huì)遇到各式各樣的老師。我希望我教過的每一位學(xué)生,在汲取課堂知識(shí)之余,都能找到一個(gè)正確的且適合他們自己的學(xué)習(xí)方法。這樣一來,日后他們可以依靠自己去獲得更多的知識(shí)。”此外,Mr.Zhang十分注重培養(yǎng)學(xué)生自主探索學(xué)習(xí)的能力,鼓勵(lì)同學(xué)們獨(dú)立思考,善于提問,并及時(shí)給與有疑問的同學(xué)們幫助,這樣的課堂必然能夠激發(fā)同學(xué)們的潛力和興趣。他希望通過這些方式引導(dǎo)同學(xué)們積極主動(dòng)學(xué)習(xí),通過自身努力,把握自己的人生。
在采訪的最后,Mr.Zhang也指出了學(xué)生的一些常見問題,例如拖延癥。在寒假期間,Mr.Zhang希望同學(xué)們端正態(tài)度,把寒假作業(yè)當(dāng)成一次鍛煉的機(jī)會(huì),合理安排時(shí)間,保證作業(yè)質(zhì)量。這樣既能定期復(fù)習(xí)知識(shí),也能充分休息。
或許曾經(jīng)的經(jīng)歷讓Mr.Zhang對(duì)于學(xué)業(yè)和人生有著獨(dú)到的見解,只有敢于挑戰(zhàn)戰(zhàn)、目標(biāo)明確、自強(qiáng)不息,才能有無悔的青春和不死的夢(mèng)想,才能創(chuàng)造屬于我們的人生。

Reporter:Wheredidyougraduateandwhenyouwereastudenthowaboutyourstudysituation?
Mr.Zhang:IstudiedattheUniversityofTorontoandtheUniversityofBritishColumbia.Now,Ihaveamaster'sdegreeinfoodnutrition,bioengineering,etc.threemajors.WhileIwasstillreading,Iwasalsofascinatedbythevideogames.TherewasatimewhenIalsoplayedgameseveryday.Butinthenexthalfsemester,IfeltIneedtostraightenoutmylearningattitude.IbegantorealizethatIwasverybadifIcontinuedtoindulgeinthegame.SoIbegantostudyhard.Iwanttobethebestinourschool,justlikeIwanttobethestrongestinthegameworldwhenI'maddictedtogames.If the others got the 86 percent, I wanted to get the 98 percent. If the others got 98 percent, I wanted to get the 100 percent.I wanted to be the best. Andintheend,Imadeit.
Reporter:Fromyourownperspective,whatisthedifferentbetweentheChinesestudentsandtheCanadianstudents?
Mr.Zhang:Frommyownperspective,Chinesestudentsaremorethancivilizedandpolite.Theywilltaketheinitiativetosay“hello”totheirteacherandwillcomitytheirteacherwhentheywalkordootherthings.Theyaremorerespectfulandlovely.Theyoftentaketheinitiativetocareabouttheirteachers.AndCanadianstudentsarerelativelyquietsometimes,butwhentheyarefunnyortired,theywouldtalkorasktheirteachers.
Reporter:Whatisyourteachinggoal?
Mr.Zhang:Infact,mymostfundamentalteachingpurposeistoletallthestudentscanlearntolearn.Theywillhavemanykindsofteacherstoteachdifferenttypessubjectsintheirlife,eachofteacherhastheirownteachingmodelandteachingmethods.Andmygoaliswhatgivethemtheabilitytolearnautonomously,andwhenthestudentsfindtherightlearningmethodsthatbelongtothemandtolearninthisway,theirlearningefficiencyandlearningabilitywillbegreatlyimproved.Eventheycanteachthemselfwithoutteachers,theycanlearnsomeknowledgeontheirown.It’smyteachinggoal.
Reporter:If you students get the terrible mark, what will you do ?
Mr.Zhang: I will do nothing. It’s their responsibility to get their mark higher. This mark comes from their usual performance and the result of their homework. Some students have low mark, but it does not mean that he does not study hard. It may really be caused of what they have difficulties in English or other areas. But if they are having trouble in some way, they can ask for my help, either by email or QQ, or by coming directly to my office to find me. As long as I am still in the school and know the question they meet, I will provide all of help I am able to do for them. But if I don't know, how can I help them? It's their own mark and this mark would affect their studies, but if they don't care about their own mark and don't do anything about their mark, why should I do it? When you get to college, no teacher will deliberately care about the mark of individual students.
Reporter: What do you think about the Maple Leaf students’ learning situation? Is there anything they can improved?
Mr.Zhang : Very good. I think most of the Maple Leaf’s students are very correct in their learning attitude, and they are motivated to get a high mark. But none of the students in the world is perfect. Maple Leaf’s students and even all over the world are prone to a common problem, that’s what the students like to procrastinate. If the teacher gives his students the next vacation assignment, there are very few students who will take the initiative to do their homework on the first day, they like to procrastinate. Their homework was delayed until the last day. But as we all know, that's a very rush. We all know that you are able to finish it better. But because the time is too short, your homework is not done as well as you think. So if students who study in Maple Leaf can get rid of procrastination, it's very good for them.
Reporter: How do you think about touching fish?
Mr.Zhang: About this question, its core question is about the self-discipline. I give you time to study or I give you time to discuss and study a certain problem, but you spend this time on touching fish, what can I do? While in class, some students seem to be taking notes, but can you guarantee that they are not in a daze or doing anything else? Do the right thing at the right time. It is very important for students to take the initiative to learn. I can provide help to my students to help them get high marks. But final analysis, but they need their own efforts.
