For Sherissa and her class, TheNine is high school’s first chapter. In Wuyuan, China, our students spent the week learning more about themselves and their peers, while identifying goals to lay the foundation for their four-year high school story ahead. Yet while cultivating this grade-level identity and building connections to their curriculum, they also looked thoughtfully at what it means to be a young person, an SAS student, in the cultural context of China. “Through many nights of reflection time, the teachers provided us with many probing questions,” says Sherissa. In looking at “the stories that make up our world, and the narratives that really tell us how much we’re losing,” they examined their roles in the turning wheels of history.
And so TheNine brought greater focus, and also a wider view for our freshman class at the Pudong campus. Take a peek at how high school began at SAS this year, a journey that only grows from here.
