Part of the century-old Shanghai High School, SHSID was founded in 1993 by then-principal, Mr. Tang Shengchang. In just twenty-five years, SHSID has risen as a leading, globally-recognized international school as it came to embody the essence of both Chinese and Western culture. It has cultivated an international perspective and affection towards China in tens of thousands of students from over 60 countries and areas.

上海中學國際部乘改革開放之東風，汲取中西文化之精華。僅僅用了25年的時間，就成為國際一流、國內領先的國際學校。培育了累計來自60多個國家與地區的上萬名具有國際視野、中國情結的莘莘學子，走向世界。

Since 2010, SHSID has been determined to move from “great to strong”. To ensure that students receive the highest quality of education, it has taken a number of measures, including maintaining the size of enrollment at about 2900, promoting selectiveness, modernity, and depth of school courses, and continuously improving academic levels while fostering the Chinese tradition of cultivating stu-dents. Through these measures, the school has shaped itself as a domestically leading institution with a worldwide reputation.

2010年以來，她立足于“從大到強”的突破。為保證學生接受優質教育的充分程度，在校生一直控制在2900人左右，大力推進學校課程的選擇性、現代性、探究性，不斷提升學術高度，反哺國內基礎教育，被公認為國際一流、國內領先的國際學校。
