On Nov. 28th, the annual English speech competition of grade 9-10 was held in the big auditorium. Because this year is SHSID’s 25th anniversary, all 9-10 students were invited to record a video and submit a speech either of their choosing or on this year’s theme for the first round: “Something (or things) you are doing now that will be beneficial and impactful for 25 years.” Selected from the winners of the first-round, six students from the ninth grade, and six students from the tenth grade took part in the second-round contest this year.
For round 2, each student was tasked with composing a 2-3 minute speech on this year's theme. Round 3 was an extemporaneous style response. This year, however, the responses were in the form of a debate, where teams of three students squared off against another team of 3 students under “Outrageous Circumstances”: debating how to handle a far-fetched scenario. All of the contestants worked hard in preparation for this high-level debate. At the end, Drake Zhao and Alex Shi from grade 10 were named the champions.
As one of the biggest annual events every year, this contest is for students who welcome learning, look for academic challenges, and seek the opportunity to speak publicly. Just as expected, the contestants never ceased to amaze the judges. They continuously improved their public speaking skills, reached new goals, and dedicated a significant gift to SHSID’s 25th anniversary by showing their talent!
11月28日，九、十年級(jí)在大禮堂舉行了一年一度的英文演講比賽。今年是上海中學(xué)國(guó)際部成立25周年，本次演講比賽初試的主題是：“讓我25年后受益匪淺的，我正在做的事”。經(jīng)過初賽的篩選，九、十年級(jí)最終各有六名選手晉級(jí)。在28日的比賽中，首先，學(xué)生須進(jìn)行一個(gè)2-3分鐘的主題演講，講述他們正在實(shí)踐的，會(huì)給他們未來25年帶來積極影響和成長(zhǎng)的事跡或行動(dòng)。之后是即興問答，今年的即興問答較往年有所不同，增加了即時(shí)辯論環(huán)節(jié)。
即興答辯環(huán)節(jié)的選題十分創(chuàng)新、超前，而在有限的時(shí)間里，選手們都展現(xiàn)出了高超的語言水平和極強(qiáng)的思辨能力。后面的辯論環(huán)節(jié)高潮迭起，選手們分為兩個(gè)陣列，開展了一場(chǎng)關(guān)于未成年人是否應(yīng)該被禁止電子游戲的辯題。辯手們提出的論點(diǎn)有理有據(jù)，把一個(gè)具體的話題引申出了廣泛而深刻的意義。
經(jīng)過激烈的角逐，最終十年級(jí)的Drake Zhao和Alex Shi，獲得了本次比賽的冠軍。英文演講比賽為所有喜愛英文、熱愛演講或渴望挑戰(zhàn)英文語言的學(xué)生們提供了舞臺(tái)。我校的學(xué)生不斷用自己的實(shí)力刷新我們對(duì)他們的期待，一次次讓評(píng)委和觀眾們感受到驚艷。他們用才華為上海中學(xué)國(guó)際部25周年慶獻(xiàn)上了一份大禮：“25年春華秋實(shí)，展望未來，著眼現(xiàn)在，我們百花齊放，花開不敗！”
